The Oklahoma State
Legislature adopted a new
design for the state flag on
April 2, 1925. Depicting
an Osage shield with a
calumet (peace pipe), olive
branch, crosses, and eagle
feathers, artist Louise Funk
Fluke created the design to
symbolize a people united by
peace. The
word Oklahoma was added in
1941.
